In the early 1970s I spent 2 years teaching in a remote village in Nepal for the Peace Corps
I can testify that the reputation the Himalaya Mountains have as an incubator of mindfulness and mystical experience is well deserved.
Without the distractions of telephones, cars, tvs, modern life, and with the presence of the mountains
mindfulness and mystical experiences come, if not easy, frequently.
Not that miracles are not happening all the time, wherever we are; - amongst the mountains we are more receptive and attentive.
Below is a screen shot of a presentation of my experiences with Nepali culture;
in this frame, the books that helped me learn meditation.
